VEXIER STOOLS // Furniture Made for Play and Curiosity
This project was created as part of the GET! pop up store in Cologne, a collaboration between students of KISD and RMIT University. The brief was to design and manufacture a piece of furniture that enticed curiosity, play and surprise within the user.
Inspiration for the stools came from metal puzzles I used as a child. How could engaging and playful forms such as these puzzles, be translated into pieces of furniture?
Vexiers are commonly known as disentanglement puzzles, with the task of taking off, or adding on a part, i.e. to unravel something or put it together sensibly.
Various concept seating forms that used both puzzle mechanics and aesthetics.

Manufacture of the final stool prototypes
The stools as intentionally designed to be less than practical when entangled. Until the user solves the 'puzzle', only then can the stools be used effectively as furniture.
